Defining the Operational Requirement
Not every aviation requirement can be addressed through a standard course. Defence, security and government aviation organisations operate different aircraft, fulfil different roles and maintain varying levels of pilot, instructor and organisational capability.
HAFT begins by defining what the organisation needs its aviators or crews to be able to do. This includes assessing the client’s aircraft, personnel, existing experience, training systems, operating environment and intended operational outcomes.
This requirement-led approach allows HAFT to identify the competencies that must be developed before determining the appropriate training structure, aircraft, instructional resources and assessment criteria.

Around the Organisation
Once the requirement is understood, HAFT develops a focused programme aligned with the client’s operational context. Training may address a specific capability gap, prepare crews for unfamiliar terrain or aircraft, strengthen instructor competence, or support integration into a wider organisational training system.
Depending on the requirement, programmes can combine foundation flying, advanced aircraft handling, emergency procedures, mission-specific techniques, crew coordination, instructor development and operational decision-making.
The objective is not to adapt the client to a predefined course. It is to structure relevant, achievable training around the capability the organisation must develop and sustain.
Building the Programme
Through Direct Engagement
Complex aviation training requires a clear understanding between HAFT and the client organisation. HAFT therefore encourages commanders, training personnel, instructors and technical representatives to engage directly with the training team and, where appropriate, visit the operation in South Africa.
This engagement allows both organisations to examine aircraft requirements, facilities, available resources, operational constraints, training standards and long-term objectives before significant commitments are made.
Direct consultation supports accurate programme design, informed due diligence and a shared understanding of the intended outcome. The result is a training pathway based on operational relevance, technical credibility and the transfer of capability back into the client organisation.
