From Access to Effective Medical Response
Defence, security and government aviation organisations are frequently deployed during disasters, major incidents and remote-area emergencies. Helicopters can overcome distance, terrain and damaged infrastructure, but reaching the scene is only the first stage of an effective response.
Through the EPIC Institute of Emergency Medicine, EPIC EM, personnel can access structured emergency medicine and trauma training appropriate to their roles, qualifications and operational responsibilities. Programmes develop the knowledge, practical skills and decision-making required to assess casualties, establish priorities and provide appropriate intervention when time and available resources are limited.
The objective is not simply to teach medical procedures. It is to develop personnel who can remain effective under pressure, work as part of a coordinated team and apply their training within the realities of the operational environment.
Structured Emergency
and Trauma Training
EPIC EM provides training across multiple levels of emergency medical capability, from first response and Basic Life Support to advanced programmes for qualified healthcare professionals.
Depending on the client requirement and participant qualifications, training can include resuscitation, trauma assessment and management, haemorrhage control, airway management, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, wilderness and remote-area first aid, emergency ultrasound and team-based medical response.
Practical and scenario-based training integrates technical knowledge with communication, leadership, teamwork and medical decision-making. This approach prepares participants to manage incomplete information, changing conditions and limited resources rather than relying solely on procedures developed for controlled clinical environments.

Major emergencies may place personnel in remote terrain, damaged infrastructure or locations where evacuation and advanced medical support are delayed.
EPIC EM develops capability relevant to disaster response, search and rescue, humanitarian assistance, aviation emergencies and other time-critical operations.
Programmes can support both operational responders and qualified medical personnel, ensuring that training reflects the individual’s role, existing competence and permitted scope of practice. Where appropriate, instructor-development pathways can also help organisations maintain selected emergency-care competencies internally.
